Nicholas Sparks’ “The Choice” was an excellent read. The book is broken up into two parts. Part 1 was a little slow and took a while to get into. At times you don’t really know where the author is going with the story, but the characters were really well developed. By the end of the book the reader really gets a feel for the characters and it is almost as if you know them. Part 2 begins with a strange opening as one of the characters, Travis, is in a hospital, but the reader does not have any clue or idea as to what put him in the hospital. Sparks gives few details and tells certain ideas that makes it seem like you know whats going on, but you really don’t. This was a good tactic to use because in the second chapter into part 2 the reader realizes what is going on and everything begins to click and make sense. “The Choice” is the story of a love triangle between Gabby, Kevin, and Travis. As the story unfolds the reader becomes aware of a number of choices that have to be made, as the title hints. Throughout Part 1 the reader is constantly guessing who Gabby is going to choose to be with. During part 2 the reader learns of one of the choices that had to be made. The second choice was not quite made by a person, but was more made for a person. The book was hard to put down because the reader wants to know what is going to happen next. The story is romantic, shocking, sad, and suspenseful all at the same time. If you want to read a book that will keep you guessing but also includes the classic love story elements, “The Choice” by Nicholas Sparks is a great choice.
