Good ole' summertime

For some people, summer means things like backyard barbecues, boating, swimming.  For me, summer means books, books, books and more books.  That may sound a bit geeky to some, but if you are a Dust Jacket Review member, you probably know what I mean.

We can have our summer fun too because we know all of those extra daylight hours means there is plenty of time for extra reading.  Imagine people thinking you can go to the pool or a beach without a book?  I cannot wrap my mind around that concept.  Don't books belong at the beach, and the pool and maybe even that backyard barbecue?

For me, summer means light reading.  I may throw in a heavy, deep thinking novel every now and then to break up the montony of fun fun fun reading.  But normally, I just go for the page-turner, plot-driven, best-sellers:  popular fiction.  I always make a list of those heavy novels that I want to read, and I might actually get a couple of them done...usually at the very end of August....

There are many people out there that set a goal of reading a whole novel a week!  For us readers, that sounds like normal life.  I say read two to three novels a week this summer.  I am including the list of best-sellers from the NY Times list because paperback reading is the way to go in the summer.  How can we carry all of those hardcover books around in the beach tote?  That would be work.....not "summerish" at all, summer should be "light" reading...

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs

Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

Wicked Pleasure by Lori Leigh

The rest of the list

I'll also be updating the small book list later this week!  watch for it!

Keep on Reading.....in the good ole' summertime
