In honor of Presidents Day
| news item by sbarranca , I read to escape and I escape to read! |
Written by Susan Barranca
Yesterday we plugged a book for Valentine's day so it only seems fair to also plug a book for President's day. A new book about Thomas Jefferson has been published.
Twilight at Monticello by Alan Pell Crawford is about Thomas Jefferson after his presidency. This novel focuses on the last years of Jefferson's life, which were spent at his beloved home, Monticello.
Yes, it does look at Jefferson and his alleged relationship with one of his female slaves. But it also explores the financial debt that Jefferson faced and his grandson's serious illness.
All in all, Jefferson was a fascinating man and this looks to be a good read. I hope one of our DJR readers will review this. I would love to hear someone's opinion on the book.
Happy President's Day!
