Captain’s Orders: Hop Aboard the Nobel Prize Ship
| news item by BLNicholas , Eclectic book explorer, writer, teacher |
Written by Brenda Nicholas
Ahoy ye writers, it’s time to thrust wind under your sails and cast off the safe mainland onto the rambunctious sea of disappointment and rejection. Or maybe not! Maybe you are the kind of pirate or sailor that literary journal has been searching for through their sea-faring multi-element eyepiece, onboard a pristine deck of future Nobel prize winners.
Okay, enough of the pirate talk. In honor of the 2008 AWP conference that ended this past weekend, I thought I’d pass along some contest info for all of our fine DJR writers. It’s inspiration time, folks. Start click, click, clicking away at those keys and buy some stock in SASE envelopes so you can send your work out. Don’t look at me that way; get your special pen ready for those future autographs!
Send work here. And when you win, tell us all about it, so we can write up a nifty story about you.

The Ha-Ha
, by Dave King
This is Dave King's debut fictional novel, and it is superb. It is centered around Howie, a Vietnam Vet. He became disabled in the war and has been trying to rebuild his life ever since. His disabi...
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
, by J. K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the novel that took this series to a whole new level. Not only is it more complicated, dramatic, and suspenseful than the first three, but it is also the found...
Out Stealing Horses
, by Per Petterson
This is a quiet book, with a subtle, quiet impact. Thankfully, such low-decibel works are still receiving attention in the world of smash-'em-ups and steamy scandal, where much of our entertainment l...
